Techniquest

Whenever we can, we like to get out and about into the communities around us and share our passion for science.

Whether it’s delivering colourful bubble workshops as part of the Pride Cymru Festival in Cardiff, a Slime-fest for children in the Valleys, or taking space-themed workshops out into our neighbourhood around Butetown and Grangetown, we love bringing science into people’s lives.

We’d love to hear from you

Get in touch if you’d like to hear more about ways you can get involved and how to support us in the charitable work we deliver out in the community.

Community tickets

ScottishPower Foundation have funded 450 tickets to Techniquest which have been given to the following community groups: FERN Partnership, Special Families, Women Connect First, InclusAbility, Welsh Refugee Council, Scout and Cubs groups.

Chemistry CREST Clubs

The Royal Society of Chemistry have funded three new CREST Chemistry Clubs to deliver to underrepresented communities. These will be supported by STEM Ambassadors from Cardiff University’s School of Chemistry.

The CREST Superstar Award recognises students aged 7–11 for completing hands-on STEM projects that encourage creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. It’s part of the British Science Association’s initiative to engage young learners in science through fun, practical activities.

We will be working with ACE Cardiff, FERN Partnership and a Home Educator group. Each group will complete their 8 x 1 hour experiments and receive a CREST Superstar Award for their completion.

Mobile Planetarium

The UK Space Agency has funded Techniquest to take the Planetarium on tour around Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

We visited 21 schools as part of the Food and Fun Summer Schools programme, delivering the We are Guardians Planetarium show to 970 children and 84 teachers.

We also delivered the show to various communities such as community libraries and Swansea Science Festival towards the end of last year.

In total, we have delivered the Planetarium to 1,540 children and 208 adults so far, with more outreach planned in the coming months.
