Be a catalyst for change and help us inspire curiosity in school children across Wales.
The Catalyst Scheme offers businesses the opportunity to support STEM education by funding school trips. At Techniquest, we welcome thousands of school pupils each year, but for many children, especially those from deprived areas of the South Wales Valleys and parts of Cardiff and Newport, a school visit may be their only chance to experience hands-on science in an informal setting.
Many of these students face significant barriers to STEM learning, and with tight budgets, schools often struggle to prioritise informal learning outside the classroom. This is where your business can make a difference. By funding educational visits — including transport costs, which are often a deal-breaker for schools — you can help ensure that more children have access to inspiring STEM experiences, opening doors to new opportunities and a brighter future.
Pupils can experience hands-on learning with us through over 100 interactive exhibits, alongside live science shows, star tours in the Planetarium or workshops in the KLA Lab.
One business that recently funded three school trips to our centre was GOS Engineering. More than 180 children from schools in Blaenavon were able to spend the day at Techniquest and be inspired by science, thanks to their generous support.
We are always grateful to the wonderful Trusts and Foundations that support us in organising free school visits to us each year — such as the Waterloo Foundation, the Edina Trust and ScottishPower Foundation amongst others — but the need is always greater than we can match with such funding.
If you think your firm might be able to support a school in your area, encouraging pupils along a STEM pathway for their future careers, get in touch with our Head of Learning, Andrea Meyrick to find out more.
